Position

The Kingdom of Sweden is the largest country of Scandinavia. It is bordered by Norway in the west, by Finland in the east and by the Sea of the Skagerrak and Kattegat Strait in the southwest and by the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia in the east. With an area of 449,964 km and a population about 9 million inhabitants, Sweden is sparely populated. The most people live in the south and the bigger cities of the country.

Regions

Sweden is devided into three major regions: Norrland, Svealand and Götaland. Norrland is the largest region with least population in the north. The largest cities are Sundsvall, Umea and Lulea. Svealand, in the middle of the country, includes the capital Stockholm, Uppsala and the province of Dalarna. Götalands largest cities are Malmö and Gothenburg and it is situated in the south.

Climate

The climate of Sweden is mostly moderate because of the Gulf Stream. But in autumn and winter there are big temperature differences between the regions. The summers could be hot, mainly in the south of the country.

Traveltime

The best traveltime for South- and Middlesweden is between may and september. If you want to visit the nothern part of the country you should do it from the beginning of june till middle of july.
